Lahore Family Court Grants Khula to Moammar Rana's Wife, Ending a 28-Year Marriage

By TaazaPulse News Desk · Published: 30 October 2026 · TaazaPulse Showbiz Desk

Actor Moammar Rana photographed during a recent interview

A Lahore family court has granted khula to Mehnaz Pervaiz, dissolving her 28-year marriage to film actor Moammar Rana. According to reports of the hearing, Judge Zahid Bashir announced the decision and issued the decree after hearing arguments from Mehnaz’s counsel, Khadija Siddiqui, who appeared on her behalf. The decree brings one of Pakistani cinema’s longest celebrity marriages to a formal end — twenty-eight years after the couple wed, in October 1998, when Rana was the biggest leading man in Lollywood.

The court’s decision was the outcome the actor himself had feared in public. Barely a fortnight ago, in mid-October, Rana had confirmed in an emotional interview that he had signed court documents, while insisting he did not want the marriage to end: he said he loved his wife and daughters, and prayed that his home would not break. With the family court’s decree, the legal step he signed towards has now been taken by the court itself.

What the court heard

The case was heard in a family court in Lahore, the city where Rana was born and where his career was made. Mehnaz Pervaiz’s side was argued by her lawyer, Khadija Siddiqui, who presented her submissions before Judge Zahid Bashir. After hearing the arguments, the judge announced the decision and issued the khula decree in Mehnaz’s favour, the reports of the proceedings say. A khula decree dissolves the marriage from the date of the decree; the detailed written order — including any terms the court set — has not been reproduced in the reports of the hearing, and this article does not guess at them.

What Mehnaz Rana’s application says

The grounds on which the case was brought are set out in Mehnaz’s application, and they are reported here exactly as what they are: the position she placed before the court. In her application, Mehnaz stated that the actor is habituated to drinking, and that in a state of intoxication he subjected her to abuse and mistreatment in front of their daughters. She stated that, for this reason, she was no longer willing to live with him in any circumstances. It was on this stated position that her counsel argued the case and the court granted the dissolution.

Two things should be held apart in reading that paragraph, and this report holds them apart deliberately. The first is a fact of record: a family court heard the wife’s case and granted her khula. The second is the content of her application — her allegations and her stated reasons, as reported from the proceedings. Rana has not, in any published report, answered the specific contents of the application; his public words about the marriage, given before the decree, are set out in the next section in his own terms.

What Moammar Rana has said

Rana spoke about the collapse of the marriage in mid-October 2026, in an interview with comedian Qaiser Piya that was widely reported on 14 and 15 October. He confirmed that the separation had reached the courts and that he had signed documents there, while saying he did not know exactly which documents they were. Asked directly whether he had signed khula papers, he repeated that he had signed some papers in court without knowing precisely what they were.

What he was clear about was what he wanted. “Meri izzat hai, meri izzat rehne do. Mujhe zyada nahi bolna. Main bohot pyaar karta hoon apni family se. Main bas chahta hoon yeh khatam na ho” — I have my dignity; please let me keep it. I do not want to say much. I love my family very much. I just want all of this not to end. He said he still loved his wife and daughters and hoped matters might improve in the reconciliation period and the family might be reunited. He also described who had stood by him: his father, his brother and his sister-in-law — while his wife and daughters, he said, were no longer living with him. In the fuller Urdu reporting of the same interview, he is quoted as saying he has signed the court papers but prays from his heart that his home does not break and the relationship survives.

A closer view of Moammar Rana during the interview in which he spoke about his marriage

A marriage from Lollywood’s biggest years

The marriage now dissolved belongs to a particular era of Pakistani cinema. Rana, the son of former Pakistan cricketer Shafqat Rana, broke through with Deewane Tere Pyar Ke and, in 1998, headlined Syed Noor’s Choorian, which became the highest-grossing Pakistani Punjabi film of its time. He married Mehnaz Pervaiz in October 1998, at the very peak of that fame, and she remained, by his own repeated account, the anchor of his family life through the decades that followed — the hundreds of films, the move into television, and the later, leaner years. The couple have two daughters, Rea and Raneya, both now grown. In an earlier interview quoted in the October coverage, Rana credited his wife directly for his closeness to them: “My relationship with my daughters is all down to Mehnaz.”

That is part of why the story has travelled the way it has since the first rumours surfaced: this was not a brief celebrity marriage but a 28-year union that had survived the arc of an entire career, and its end arrived in two public instalments — the husband’s emotional interview in October, saying he had signed papers he barely understood while hoping against the outcome, and, now, the court’s decree.

What khula means here

Khula is the form of dissolution a wife seeks from the family court when she maintains she cannot continue the marriage. The court hears both sides; where it is satisfied the marriage cannot continue, it issues a decree dissolving it, and it decides in the same decree the connected questions — which can include the husband’s dower and benefits — on the facts of the case. None of those terms in this case have been published in the reports of the hearing, so none are stated here. What the decree itself does is not in doubt: the marriage between Moammar Rana and Mehnaz Pervaiz stands dissolved by order of the court.

What happens next

At the time of publication, no response from Moammar Rana or his representatives to the decree itself had been reported. His stated position remains the one he gave in October: that he signed the court papers in an emotional state, that he loves his family, and that he hoped and prayed the relationship would not end. Whether he comments on the decree, or takes any legal step in response, is now the open part of this story; if either happens, this report will be updated and the update marked. Main bas chahta hoon yeh khatam na ho,” he said — asking to be left his dignity, saying he loves his family and wants it not to end — and he expressed hope of reconciliation. He said his father, brother and sister-in-law had stood by him, while his wife and daughters were no longer living with him.

What is khula?

Khula is the dissolution of a marriage at the wife's instance through the family court. Where the court is satisfied that the wife cannot continue the marriage within the limits laid down, it issues a decree dissolving the marriage; questions such as the return of benefits or dower are decided by the court in the decree, case by case. The detailed written terms of this decree have not been published in the reports of the hearing.

Has Moammar Rana responded to the khula decree?

Not in any report published by the time this article went out. His last public words on the marriage, from mid-October, were that he had signed court papers in an emotional state and hoped and prayed the relationship would survive. If he or his representatives comment on the decree, this report will be updated and the update marked.
